The Ehsaas Program is the umbrella name for Pakistan’s federal social-protection programs. This guide explains, in simple words, what Ehsaas is, how it relates to BISP and 8171, who is eligible, and how to check your status by CNIC.
Many people search for the “Ehsaas program” and the “BISP program” and mean the same thing. Understanding how they fit together makes it easy to check your status correctly and avoid scams.
What is the Ehsaas Program?
Ehsaas is not a single payment. It is the overall name for a group of federal social-protection programs that include cash support, education stipends, nutrition support, and more. The main cash support under Ehsaas is delivered through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
So when people say “Ehsaas program,” they usually mean the BISP cash support that you check using the 8171 service.
Ehsaas, BISP, and 8171: how they fit together
It helps to keep three names straight:
- Ehsaas is the umbrella name for the social-protection effort.
- BISP is the programme that runs the main cash support, such as Benazir Kafaalat and Benazir Taleemi Wazaif.
- 8171 is the official service you use to check your status by CNIC.
There is no separate “Ehsaas number” for checking. Anyone who gives you a different number or website is not official.
How to check the Ehsaas Program by CNIC
You check your status in two free ways:
- Online: enter your 13-digit CNIC at 8171.bisp.gov.pk and type the captcha.
- By SMS: send your 13-digit CNIC, without dashes, to 8171.
Both show your current eligibility and payment status. For the full step-by-step, read how to check BISP 8171 online.
Who is eligible
Eligibility is for low-income families registered in the NSER (National Socio-Economic Registry) with a qualifying PMT poverty score. Priority goes to widows, divorced women, persons with disabilities, and very low-income households. Government employees and higher-income households are generally not eligible. We explain the score in our BISP eligibility guide.
How to register
You register through the BISP NSER dynamic survey at your nearest BISP Tehsil office, not on a website. Bring your CNIC and household documents. Registration is free. Our BISP registration guide explains the full process.
